Hull SCITT Role Deputy Director
Why did you want to be a teacher?
I thought I could help people to learn and that I would enjoy making a living doing this.
Can you give us a brief outline of your career?
I’m 25+ years in and still teaching. I have worked in many schools across the full primary age range and with a range of responsibilities. Alongside this over the last few years I’ve worked as a consultant. This has given me the opportunity to work in all phases of education and with other businesses.
What do you enjoy most about your Hull SCITT role?
Seeing our trainees develop into great teachers ready to enter the profession.
What are your top tips for someone starting on the programme?
Build positive relationships with your fellow professionals and children. Be clear about what the children need to learn. Have a clear plan but be prepared to change it if needed.
How do you feel the Hull SCITT programme prepares Trainees for their future teaching careers?
I believe if you are going to train to be a teacher a school based approach is the best way to achieve this.
Hull SCITT believes every candidate they offer a place to has the potential to be a good teacher. Our partnership will do everything possible to support them in achieving this and securing their first teaching post.
